Check my Math? (Foxconn Suicides)

Look I know its sad. I know working conditions aren’t great over there, but I think its easy to blow this out of proportion.  Foxconn is pretty much a city.

I did some quick math.

Suicide rate in Taiwan - 14/100000/year

Foxconn Employees - 485 000

Expected Suicides = 67 (14*4.85)

Suicide attempts at Foxconn in 2010 - 16

Extrapolated to full year assuming same rate - 35.

Suicide rate for Foxconn Employees is half the average of the country. 20% wage increases for factory workers just went through too. It’s sad, and being looked at, but I think everyone is making a really big deal out of it. When you have 500 000 employees, its easy to pull numbers and make things look bigger than they appear. Just my 2 cents.

My iPad app recomendations.

I’ve had an iPad for about three weeks now, and for those Canadians just getting theirs on launch day today, Here are a couple suggestions about what to check out first:

AccuWeather - iTunes Link

Best Looking, best priced, accurate weather app. I’ve tried them all, this is the best. Trust me. Free.

Mocha VNC Lite - iTunes Link

Now I don’t know if this is the best VNC app out there, but it’s free, and it’s worked well for me.  If you need to remotely unrar a file, check on a compressor cue, or monitor a FTP transfer from another part of the house, this app will get it done, and the price is right. Free

BioDefenceHD - iTunes Link

R.T.S./Tower Defense with ZOMBIES? AWESOME. Horribly addictive, suited perfectly for this platform, really well designed, and lots of fun to play. The progression of the challenges helps teach you about how the game works as well, so it’s super easy to catch on. For the amount of time you’ll spend playing this game, the price is great. $.99
